VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY---This Saturday, September 14th from 9 to Noon
Hi there Friends of Hackmatack volunteers!
It is September, which means it is time to resume our brush-clearing work in and around the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge! Our next stewardship event is this Saturday, September 14th from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Otrebla parcel owned by Openlands.
We will continue to remove brush and some small trees from a small grove on the site being restored to wet prairie and sedge meadow wetland.
If you have been to an Otrebla stewardship day, you know that it is a long walk, first over mowed lawn and then through dense wetland vegetation. You will want to travel as light as possible. Access to the property will be via a private landowner's property on the east side of Route 47, one mile north of St. Charles Road north of Woodstock. The address is 3314 Route 47, Woodstock IL 60098. As always, look for the Hackmatack signs!
Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and please bring your own drinking water. Protective clothing such as long pants (not leggings) are recommended. We’ll have hand tools, work gloves, safety glasses, and a few snacks.
An RSVP is appreciated, so if you know you will be attending please give me a heads up. Students are welcome! If you are under age 18, you will need a parent or guardian to sign the attached waiver form indicating that you are authorized to attend; you can either email the signed form back to me or bring it to the workday. Note that this is a different waiver form than our usual refuge form because we are working off of the refuge at this event. Also, the parent/guardian signs in the line labeled "volunteer"; the minor does not need to sign. These forms are available in the AHHS Office and were emailed to students 9/9.

*** Monday 8/19 All Fall sport athletes sports pictures will start right after school with MS volleyball at 3:00 followed by HS Volleyball, MS Football, HS Football and HS Cheer. Make sure you bring your game uniforms to school. All Senior athletes of all sports please come and get your picture taken for your Senior Banners. We will do those in-between team pictures. I will get your proper uniforms out for you when you come. ***
Seniors:
Attention all Fall HS and MS Athletes practices start on Aug. 12th. MS Volleyball and Football both practice 3:00-5:00. HS Cheer will be practicing 3:00-4:45. HS Volleyball will be practicing 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. HS Football will be practicing 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. ***All Athletes must have a current sports physical on file or they will not be able to practice. If you cannot get into your regular doctor and need a quick sports physical places like CVS minute clinic in Crystal Lake and others offer these services. ***

*** Tuesday 7/23 We will be wrapping up our summer HS Football workouts on Friday night with a controlled scrimmage under the lights at 7:00. Team cookout for players and parents to follow the scrimmage at 8:30. Everyone is welcome to come out for a sneak peak at your 2024 Giants !! Also want to remind everyone about the 2nd Annual Tyler Henken Wrestling Foundation Fundraiser at Hoop's this Saturday starting at 12:00 with Bags Tournament , Silent Auction and Meat Raffle at 3:00. Come out for some fun and support Alden-Hebron Wrestling. Live music to follow the meat raffle !!! ***
